Stones of Horrocks Fold
The Stones family appear to have been connected with Horrocks Fold for several generations. The earliest record I've found so far is the burial of the widow of John Stones of High Horrocks in 1588 at St. Peters in Bolton-le-Moors. (This is probably Margaret Stones, the widow of Bolton recorded in the list of Chester wills),Between 1588 and 1700 there are twenty three wills of people with the surname Stones from Sharples. In 1680 we find the burial of John Stones of High Horrocks at Bolton.
John Stones of High Horrockes, burial record in 1680 |
In 1694 we find a marriage of two members of the Stones family who both come from High Horrockes, and must surely have been related to one another:-
Thomas Stones - High Horrockes in Sharples
Margaret Stones - High Horrockes in Sharples
