James Crompton started to work the paper mill Higher Mill at Little Lever in 1677, which later became known as Creams. He died in 1704 and willed that his Higher Mill be divided among his four sons, including the Adam Crompton mentioned aboveIn the book "Paper in Bolton" there are three chapters devoted to the Crompton family, and a family tree on page 46, as follows:-
