1763 Apprenticeship Indenture of Catherine Hope to John Longworth

This Indenture Made the Eigth Day of March in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two BETWEEN Robert Brooks Churchwarden and the said Robert Brooks and Ralph Seddon Overseers of the Poor of the Township of Middle Hulton in the Parish of Dean in the County of Lancaster of the one part and John Longworth of Great Bolton in the said County fustian weaver of the other part

WITNESSETH, that the said Church-Waden and Overseers, by and with the Consent and Allowance of Two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace (One of the Quorum) of and for the said County have put placed, and bound, and by these Presents do put, place, and bind Catherine Hope (Daughter of Jacob Hope of Little Bolton a poor person whose settlement is in Middle Hulton aforesaid).

Who is a poor female Child of the age of eleven years, as an Apprentice to the said John Longworth with him to co-habit and dwell after the Manner of an Apprentice until she shall attain the Age of Twenty whole Years next ensuing the Date hereof, during all which Time her said Master she shall faithfully Serve, his Secrets keep, his lawful Commands obey; at Cards, Dice, or other unlawful Game she shall not Play, or Exercise herself therein; Ale-Houses, Taverns, or evil Company she shall not frequent.  Fornication or Adultery she shall not commit, not Matrimony contract during the said Term, neither shall she Consume, Waste, or lend the foods of her said Master to any one with his Knowledge and Consent: DAMAGE she shall not do to her Master or suffer the same to be done by Others but shall endeavour to prevent the same, and give Notice thereof to her said Master.  Neither shall she absent herself from the service of her said master and all his Family as becometh a faithful Apprentice during the said Term.

IN CONSIDERATION whereof, and of the Sum of One pound five shillings to him the said John Longworth in hand at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents by the said Churchwarden and Overeer of the Poor.  The said John Longworth doth for himself, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, Covenant, Promise and Grant, to and with said Church Warden and Overseers of the Poot, and their Successors, that the said John Longworth, his Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, or some of them shall and will Teach and Instruct the said Catherine Hope or cause her to be well Taught and Instructed in the Trade of Occupation of a fustian [maker - crossed out] spinner and find and provide for her all Manner of Apparel and wholesome sufficient Meat, Drink, Washing and Lodging, during the said Term, and at the end of the said Term shall and will find, give and provide for his said Apprentice suitable sufficient and decent apparel both linnen and Woolen[?]

In Witness thereof the said Parties have hereunto Interchangeably[?] put their Hands and seals the day and Year first above written.
