The Ancient Tombstones of Bolton-le-Moors

In 1536, Henry VIII., three altars were placed in this church he high one dedicated to the Most High, and the two lateral ones to St. Peter and the Blessed Virgin.  The Reformation cleared these, with all the ancient tombstones belonging to the families of the Mershams of the Manor, Bolton of the Stydd, Belasyses, Pilkingtons, Levers, Harwoods, Rumworths, Quarltons, Breightmets, Parkers, Farnworths, Entwistles, Turtons, Haulghs, Sharples, Tonges, Longworths, Andertons, and others.
